The Dementia Helpline

The first number you call.

The Dementia Helpline is a service for people with dementia, their caregivers, family and friends. The Helpline assists individuals in building the confidence to maintain quality of life when facing dementia.

Anyone concerned about dementia is welcome to call the Helpline. Every call to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. is strictly confidential.


A trained, caring team of staff and volunteers will answer your call and can provide information and support about:

  • Maintaining brain health
  • Understanding Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias
  • Getting a diagnosis
  • The progression of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias
  • Planning for the future
  • Maintaining independence
  • Providing care and support
  • Resources in your community – including support groups
  • Upcoming education workshops

Alzheimer Resource Centres

Alzheimer Resource Centres located throughout the province offer information, educational opportunities, support groups and the ability to talk directly with a knowledgeable team member. Services help those concerned with or facing dementia build the knowledge, skills and confidence to maintain quality of life.

Resource Centres also offer lending libraries, information packages with brochures and fact sheets, individual support by appointment and referrals to local resources.

Information Bulletins

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. has two quarterly information bulletins to connect and inform:
 

  • Caregivers – In Touch is a bulletin that provides up-to-date information and practical suggestions for caregivers. This publication covers a wide range of topics such as safety and the person with dementia, future planning,  to caregiving from a distance.

  • People living with the disease – Insight is a quarterly bulletin that offers helpful strategies, including tips from Early Stage Support Group members from across the province, and personal stories about people who are living with dementia. The majority of the content is written by people with dementia.


We also have our Contact newsletter which provides general information about brain health, upcoming events, and other news about our organization.
